Ashok Dutta is a Janakpur based journalist, poet and lyricist. Formerly a national-level cricketer, he is known for a song—based on traditional Maithili melody—that celebrates the birth of a girl in the household. Team Fuzzscape got the opportunity to work with him on the lyrics of Fuzzscape: Janakpur’s title song. Mr. Dutta’s artistic career commenced when he won an award for a writeup of his in a literature competition. He hasn’t looked back since. In the interview, he talks about the rich Maithili culture of Janakpur, the community’s strive for preserving and promoting it and the indispensable role of women in Maithili arts, language and music.
